‘All of a sudden I looked up and saw someone who looked like David Beckham walking past us.’

Retired soccer legend and current underwear model David Beckham made a paramedic’s morning when he bought coffee for her, plus tea for her elderly patient, as they were waiting for an ambulance.

On Monday, London paramedic Catherine Maynard was outside with her patient, trying to keep him warm as they waited for a ride.

“All of a sudden, I looked up and saw someone who looked like David Beckham walking past us,” Maynard told the BBC. “He said hello and got in his car. I said to the man I was treating, ’I think that was David Beckham.’ Ten minutes later, he came back with a cup of coffee for me and a tea for the patient.”

“We were both very amused and flattered,” Maynard said.

The London Ambulance Service later commended Beckham for showing that he “respects hard-working paramedics and even a gesture as small as buying a cup of coffee makes our crews feel appreciated.”

The patient was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

The former footballer played good samaritan by bringing a much needed tea and coffee to a paramedic and her elderly patient when he saw them waiting in the cold on Monday.

David spotted bike paramedic Catherine Maynard and her patient waiting for an ambulance on Monday near Endsleigh street in London and thought they looked like they could do with a warming beverage.

Catherine was naturally rather pleased her surprise - both the tea and the lovely David. The paramedic, who works with London Ambulance Service&rsquos Cycle Response Unit, said: &ldquoWe were both very amused, and flattered. I couldn&rsquot believe it when he came back with some hot drinks - I was so chuffed.&rdquo

She said: &ldquoI was waiting with my patient for an ambulance to transfer him to hospital and although I was keeping him warm it was very cold outside.

David stopped to do his bit when he saw Catherine treating the patient who had fallen over on the street. The footballer was happy to pose with a picture in his rather snazzy bright yellow Adidas trainers.

The London Ambulance service tweeted their appreciation &ldquoThank you David Beckham for buying a tea and coffee for Cycle Paramedic Catherine and her patient #buyitlikebeckham.&rdquo

They are asking people to be inspired by Becks to buy ambulance crew a cuppa. They tweeted: Inspired by Beck&rsquos act of kindness?&hellip offer our crews a coffee and tweet us a pic #buyitlikebeckham&rdquo.

We would have needed a paramedic ourselves if David Beckham had handed us a cup of tea. What a guy.
