The crustaceous trend claws its way into London’s casual dining scene

Lobster Kitchen offers lobster rolls, whole lobster, and lobster tail meals for no more than £19 ($30).

Enjoying a fresh, succulent lobster in London needn’t be an exorbitant experience, thanks to the city’s growing trend of casual lobster joints suited for any budget.

One can loosely attribute London’s affordable lobster movement to the six-location Burger & Lobster; for only £20 ($31), one can eat boiled, grilled, or “rolled” lobster with salad and fries, and they’ve been luring busy and buzzy crowds since 2011.

This season, restaurateurs have caught on to the movement as New England-style lobster joints are sprouting up in central London. Lobster Kitchen opened its doors in late October in Fitzrovia, followed by Mayfair’s Smack in early November, and Fraq’s Lobster Shack will debut in Fitzrovia later this month.

Lobster Kitchen offers lobster rolls, whole lobster, and lobster tail meals for no more than £19 ($29), and sides such as corn on the cob, deep-fried pickles, and lobster mac and cheese.

Smack, a lobster shack owned by the Burger & Lobster team, might be the most budget-friendly of the bunch, offering lobster chowder for £3.60 ($6) and lobster rolls for £9 ($14); it’s rumored that Fraq’s will sport similar prices as Lobster Kitchen.

So that you can sample this delicious trend, here’s a tip: To celebrate their grand opening, Lobster Kitchen is offering 50-percent off their entire food menu until November 28 to diners who sign up to join their Claw Club.
